Creamiest Overnight Muesli AKA Overnight Oats

Ok, I know a lot of people think that they don’t like muesli; but here’s the thing, muesli can be so many different things and if you soak it overnight its basically overnight oats! Muesli is one of the few sweet breakfast things that German’s eat regularly for breakfast and I love it!

This triple berry muesli blend was inspired by one of my favorite muesli shops in Munich! Unfortunately you can’t get that company here in the US so I made my own and of course added my favorite quark from Wรผnder Creamery because: a) creamy texture b) yummy flavor c) extra protein at breakfast!

Tips for making Blueberry Quark Overnight Oats

  1. Briefly grind up your oats in a blender or food processor. We aren’t looking for oat flour, just somewhat finer than whole oats. This is one tip for creating creamier overnight muesli!
  2. The flaxseed meal in this recipe is optional but it too adds a creamier flavor and adds healthy fats!
  3. Feel free to use any flavor of quark but I do love using the blueberry with this recipe!
  4. Once all the ingredients are combined, these will stay good for 3-4 days in the fridge. So feel free to prep out more than one portion when you are making it! I like to make 3 at a time which is about half of the total recipe but you can make the full amount of dry muesli mix and keep it in your pantry for up to a month.

Ingredients for Overnight Blueberry Muesli

  • Rolled Oats: For this muesli I like to use rolled oats rather than quick cooking oats because they contain more nutritional value! If you are concerned about digesting the oats, simply toast them in the oven on a baking sheet at 350 F for 10 min.
  • Flaxseed Meal: Flaxseed meal helps at protein and healthy fats to this meal as well as act as a way to achieve even creamier oats!
  • Freeze dried strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries: I like to use freeze dried fruit in the muesli rather than dried fruit because it provides a fresher flavor and there is no added sugar. For the raspberries and strawberries I recommend first breaking them up into smaller pieces.
  • Milk: Milk is the main liquid to soak this muesli in; however, you can use any non dairy milk or even apple juice!
  • Blueberry Wรผnder Creamery Quark: Possibly the most important ingredient, quark adds creaminess and richness while still keeping this recipe low in fat and high in protein.

How to make Healthy Overnight Oats

Make the Muesli mix

  • Blend approximately 600 grams of the whole rolled oats until they are broken down – just before getting to the point of oat flour.
  • In a large jar, combine the non-blended and blended oats, the flaxseed meal, and the crumbled freeze dried berries. Then, close the lid and shake until the ingredients are well dispersed.

Prep the Muesli for breakfast

  • Depending on how many portions you plan to prepare, set out the relative number of jars or containers.
  • In each container, add in 1/2 a cup of the muesli mix, 125 ml of milk, and 1/3 container of blueberry quark.
  • Stir to combine and close the jars. Place all the prepared muesli containers in the fridge for at least 12 hours.
  • Just before serving, add another 1/3 container and a 1/4 cup of blueberries on top of each jar!
